Don’t let anyone tell you the gorget’s just for show. This one’s made to protect your throat, sure — but it does more than that. The Landsknecht gorget is shaped with three lames around the neck that rise and fall with your head, letting you move and breathe without leaving yourself open. The front covers the upper chest, and a small plate at the back protects the spine and balances the weight of the piece across the shoulders.

That balance is key — it keeps the gorget from pulling forward or choking you when worn with spaulders or a full harness. Speaking of which, it’s made to tie into shoulder armour easily, and sits cleanly under most cuirasses as well. Worn on its own, it still makes a strong impression, giving you the upright posture of someone used to speaking with authority — and not afraid to take a strike meant for the neck.
